In order to figure out what your prospects are talking about and searching for online you need to conduct keyword research.

Now, contrary to popular belief, it’s not just the marketing department who should be handling this job, as sales professionals and business owners can use keyword research to their own advantage. Whilst it is great having a team to do this for you, how can you expect to get the results you want if you don’t understand the value in this to begin with?

By gathering a strong list of selected keywords, you can begin to use these in your sales copy, on your websites, in your blog posts and even on your social networking profiles to ensure you are being found when your prospects go online in search of the products and services you provide.

 Once you’ve driven people to one of your pages you can invite them to call, email or sign up to receive more information about you and the company. By driving people to your pages through the specific keyword database you have built up, you are effectively driving leads into the business.

The more content you produce which contains these specific keywords, the more traffic you will drive to your site and the more leads you will uncover. It really is as simple as that.

As a sales professional or business owner, you have the closet relationship and most contact with your clients, and are therefore have the best idea of what keywords your prospects are likely to be using when they are looking for information online. 

However, you should always do your research and put these to the test, as you may find that the keywords and phrases you expected to be important are not being searched for in relation to your business – and what good is it to invest time in creating optimised content around these keywords if they will not be bringing in the leads?

Find your strongest keywords and optimise your online space to ensure that the right traffic is driven to your sites – which will help bring in the right kind of leads.

Keyword research really can help with prospecting and online lead generation, so if you want your prospects to find you, you need to make yourself visible in their space and engage with them using their own words.
